11:03:17 Miguel Pellitero Saturday Midnight Mix SPECIAL
This Saturday at MIDNIGHT we welcome Miguel Pellitero. He was a fixture at legendary clubs like Fiction & DTPM,
and we are delighted to have him on board this weekend. As is the custom, the DANCEPOWERSTATION caught up with Miguel to find out more about the man and his music!
DP: Hi Miguel, tell us about yourself!
MP: Hi. I am Miguel, an avid record collector for thirty years, which allowed me to become a Club and Radio Dj. I held weekly residencies at DTPM (The End 97-99 / Fabric 99-05) and Fiction at The Cross (00-05). I also had a Ministry of Sound London monthly residency (02) and worked as Ministry of Sound Tour DJ (01-05). In the studio I have collaborated with Malcom Duffy, Princess Julia and Tom Stephan (aka Plastic Surge) as well as releasing two DTPM compilations and remixes for Stereo Productions (Chus and Ceballos) amongst others. I did “retire’’ from Club DJing in 2005 but I still play out for selected parties run by friends.
DP: Tell us about your musical influences/heroes over the years…
MP: I grew up at the intersection of electro-pop and proto-house so my biggest influences were the output of Mute, Factory and Warp Records. From the mid 90s forward I specialised in Deep and Tribal House music. What is the first record you ever bought? A cassette, actually, ‘A broken frame’ by Depeche Mode.
DP: How did you start DJing?
MP: Those records I collected became very handy when my mate’s bands started doing gigs; I will play them before they performed live to warm-up the audience and after the show for a well deserve knees-up. That’s how it all started.
DP: What is your most memorable experience in a club?
MP: Like asking a parent to name their favourite child…. The Knebworth festival always springs to mind but this is closely followed by any of the DTPM birthdays… Import! birthday at Piekarnia in Warsaw with Jimpster and Tania Vulcano was also definitely a highlight…. or the Terrace at Space in Ibiza with Smokin’ Jo. Thought in terms of size, playing to over a million people for Sao Paulo Pride has to be the winner.
DP:How would you describe your sound at the moment?
What is your favourite track right now?
MP: Jagwar Ma – Give Me A Reason (Michael Mayer Does The Amoeba Remix) LISTEN
DP: What can we expect from you on the DANCEPOWERSTATION for your guest mix?
MP: Atemporal filthy baselines, crispy hi-hats and some guest feature vocals. See if you can name them!
DP: Sounds intriguing! And finally, where can we hear you playing out?
MP:… There is a rumour the DTPM/Fiction crew are planning a day out in the near feature 😉
DP: Wow that will be awesome! Thanks Miguel!
…Make sure you are listening Saturday at Midnight for his EXCLUSIVE Mix for the DANCEPOWERSTATION!
